To honour and celebrate International Women’s Day this year, we invited five inspirational local women to share what womanhood means to them. This is Roxanne's story.

Tell us a bit about you. What are you currently focused on, what does your day to day look like?

I'm Roxanne, I'm a wife, mum of 4, model, content creator and business owner based in Brisbane, QLD. About me... I always find this so difficult; I like a lot of things like fashion, meeting people, board games, cookies and cream ice cream, rom coms... I change all the time so maybe by the time you read this I won't like cookies and cream ice cream anymore? No, I will, I love that flavour.

At the moment, I'm very focussed on being present in all aspects of my life; whether that's with my family, kids and friends, my health and fitness or my career.

My day to day is actually pretty routine based; I wake up at 4am and get to the gym around 4:45am, train for an hour or so - usually strength based, I love to lift heavy. I'm home by about 6am and get myself ready for the day by 6:30ish while the kids are waking up, and then get my kids ready for the day. During the week we do the school/daycare run, then depending on the day I will come home and film content/edit; head to a shoot, go out to site or am home doing admin; non day-care days I keep my to-do list short. Then school/day-care pickups, maybe go to the park to burn off some energy if the weather is good; finish off urgent things if I didn't get to them, dinner/bath/bed routine and then we'll all chill out and watch a movie together or something. And weekends are free reign for everyone!

What is a life motto that you live by?

It's never too late to become who you've always wanted to be.

How would you describe the modern woman?

A woman who is present, asks questions and challenges others as well as herself. Knows when to listen, and when to speak up.

What does being a woman mean to you?

Embracing and understanding who you are, the ebbs and flows of life; and the beauty and power that comes with that.

Is there a book that really stood out to you over the years that you would recommend to other women?

I don't read as much as I'd like to but when I was going through one of the most difficult times of my life, I was recommended a book called "The Happiness Trap" and from that book I learnt a lot about acceptance for myself, what I have been through and will go through in life; being mindful of myself and others, and understanding my own values.

Can you recount a time you felt empowered by another woman, who they were, what the event entailed?

Recently I was at a networking event, and there was a woman, Jess, who was speaking about the inspiration behind her brand. She explained the challenges she'd faced going into a completely different industry (fashion) with the hours she was doing as a detective and not really having much guidance; but her WHY was so inspirational for me. Just listening to her speak about the reason she started her brand and even though she didn't know much and had strayed away a little when people started giving opinions/insight, she kept coming back to that. I loved her story, and it reminded me of my why and the reason I do what I do which made me feel very empowered in myself.

What are you most looking forward to in 2023 and what’s next for you!

Oh, there are so many things I'm looking forward to; some of them I don't even know about yet so I'm going to say just growth and abundance in general!

Not just for me, but everyone - I love to see people thriving!

And what's next is another business venture, I have some really cool things in the works right now so I'm extremely grateful and very keen to see what’s to come this year.
